Starting 14th and finishing seventh at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the Alpine driver converted a seven-place gain into six points — enough to take his season total in this metric to 11 and reshape the podium of the table.
That matters because the lead remains set by narrow margins. Liam Lawson still heads the list on 14 after scoring four points from eighth on the grid to finish eighth, but Gasly’s climb now puts him just three behind Lawson, and only one behind Max Verstappen on 12. With the top three changing but the leader staying put, the picture is of a table being compressed from behind rather than turned over at the top.
The counterpoint to Gasly’s progress came from two drivers moving the other way. Oliver Bearman dropped from third to fifth after a Barcelona weekend that began 15th and ended with a retirement classified 17th, leaving him on seven points in this category. Carlos Sainz also lost ground, sliding from fifth to sixth and sitting on six — a reminder that, in a ranking built specifically around extracting points from 11th or lower, a single non-score can quickly undo earlier damage-limitation.
