Oscar Piastri’s name stays at the top of the Momentum ranking after round five in Canada, and that in itself is the story: the metric is about acceleration in scoring rate, and he still owns the biggest jump in the field at +11.00. That lead looks even more striking set against what happened in Montreal, where Piastri started fourth and finished 11th with 0 points, classified as lapped after 66 laps at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The chase is close enough to matter, but not close enough to call it settled. Verstappen is the nearest rival by recent-vs-earlier scoring rate at +5.67, with Norris right behind at +4.33 — a tight battle for second between Red Bull and McLaren, while Piastri’s headline number remains in a separate tier. Further back, Franco Colapinto (Alpine) sits fourth on +4.17 and Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) fifth on +3.50, keeping the top end of the ranking broader than a simple two-team story.
The lower half of the top 10 underlines how fine the margins are once the biggest swings are accounted for. Isack Hadjar’s +1.33 places him sixth, but seventh through ninth are separated by nothing at all on the display figure: Alexander Albon, Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz are each on +0.33. Fernando Alonso rounds out the top 10 on 0.00 — essentially flat momentum — which is still enough to keep him in the conversation while others either haven’t met the baseline requirement or sit outside this cut.
After five rounds, the Momentum ranking is painting a clear picture: Piastri’s current scoring rate has surged far more than anyone else’s (+11.00), even as Canada delivered him 0 points. The immediate fight is for second — Verstappen (+5.67) versus Norris (+4.33) — with Colapinto (+4.17) and Antonelli (+3.50) close enough to keep pressure on if the trend continues.
